The car wash was a bit of an edinburgh pre club institution , specialising in funky sounds and cocktails and happily since its refurb its kept most of its original feel .
Cocktails are still excellent quality and i havent had a bad pint here either , musics cool and not too obtrusive .
It used to have a bit older crowd which made it very chilled but recently ive noticed a more studenty/mixed crowd. I dont feel too much of an old fart here though and its one of the city centres better spots.

First visit to The wash last night. Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. It also features the worlds comfiest couch. sweet

The Wash Bar is one of the coolest bars in town and unlike some other 'style bars' that seem to be clones of each other, this joint has some individuality.. funky decor inspired by the 1970's with bucket chairs, big comfy leatherette sofas and an old skool table football machine in the upstairs bar!
the staff are cool and friendly but with a non-pretentious attitude and at weekends when the live D.J.'s are playing the place really starts jumpin'!
this gaff has real ambience, cool tunes and great food, cocktails, perfect location too (bang in the centre of town and close to some of edinburgh's best clubs) and also 2 widescreen tv's in the upstairs bar so you can kick back with a pint and watch the sports channels.
check this place out.. you'll be back for more!!!

We happened on the Wash bar on a visit to Edinburgh in Sept 2005. It was our first visit to the fair city, and we fell in love with it. Our Wash bar experience summed up Edinburgh for us. Friendly people (the bar tender, a big bear of a bloke was so cool, a big thanks to him) great atmosphere, very chilled/laid back. The cocktails were thoroughly wicked, and the food...my god THE FOOD was AMAZING. I had this beef or steak and ale pie with mash that is simply the best of it's type I've ever had, and I have had a LOT. (no chance of tapping the chef for the recipe I supposed?? if so send to luker@ubermusik.co.uk thanks :)))) We often pine for some more of that I'll tell ya.
If you haven't been, GO! It's superb. Keep it up guys.

Now becoming regulars, even though we live in Leicester. Great atmosphere - always made welcome! Good food and top bar staff. Music at weekends is top notch.

As the new boss at The Wash, I wanna firstly thank the reviewers who have added entries on the site. Been there since Nov 04, and trying to keep the same old wash ambience, but bringing the the place up to date decor wise. the old tub chairs, football machine and lounging sofas are still there, and new food and cocktail menus created. Our food is all "home-made" and we're always looking at ways of improving. The pub's got a great atmosphere (especially on weekends) where a good up for it, unpretentious crowd gather to chat, party, drink and dance the night away to DJ's from Solescience, Random, Vitamin. Come in and check it out sometime. We won't disappoint! Mike

has recently changed - although managing to keep the same funky and original atmosphere as before, the food and cocktail menu has been significantly altered to include a more comprehensive and attractive list. The staff are as cool as ever - always a warm welcome and fast service - a definate must for those lazy weekends when you're hungover and just want to read the paper in peace or for pre-drinking with a group of friends before a night out on the town.

I had not been to The Wash for a few years and went last weekend...still looks the same...which is a good thing as it is funky and relaxing. Great crowd, unpretentious and fun.
Drinks are cheap but don't bother with the cocktails as they are not so great! same with the food...unless you have had a few too many and then the nachos probably tastes great! but otherwise give it a miss.
Highly recommended for early evening for a couple of drinks. And the staff are always friendly!
