I was really surprised to read the food review in the Evening New recently, and can only assume that his was a one off! I've eaten in the Waiting Room loads of times, and honestly would find it hard to fault the place.
Beer is good too, especially what the staff affectionately call 'Sunday Staropramen' :)

The waiting room is by far the best pub in morningside, great drinks, excellent cocktails, tasty food and hot hot barmaids! Staff always have something to say, and a cheeky attitude! service can sometimes be slow, but the drinks make up for it, and the prices!

The best atmosphere in any pub in morningside, if not edinburgh. Amazing staff, friendly service, great food and drink with some of the most happy and fun customers in the world. If you live in the area and don't frequently attend you are missing out.

Love this place especially for the food...im a big lad and like my food,and have been through this menu 100 times,and have no complaints.Friendly with hots chicks behind the bar,make my 2 plates of nacho's taste even better....A must,for pub grub fans....IM HUNGRY!!!!!

The perfect place to spend a sunday, or monday, or tuesday, or wednesday, even a thursday or friday or saturday. good food and good service from knowledgeable, friendly staff. I also noticed a new wine list, apparently all tried and tested by the staff. well worth a visit, but best not make any other plans for the night because it's incredibly difficult to leave the place.

What can i say. It was terrible! We waited 20minutes on a sunday to be served at the bar as staff @weren't interested'. More keen on showing off their throwing of glass skills. There was heavy rock playing on the stereo which was definately too load as bar was quiet, glasses sitting everywhere. Had some nachos-big mistake. Waited half an hour then was presented with all i can call is crisps-hmmm

my boyfriend and i had nachos to share (eventually) which were actually doritos with salsa thrown at them and not nearly enough cheese. i then had what was called a tex bbq stirfry which i couldnt eat because it was so incredibly spicy and nothing else. boyf had a surf n turf, it was ok. they forgot our onion rings and when we got them they were cold. when the guy came to collect out plates we were still hungry obviously and wanted a pud. but oh no, he put the bill on the table without even asking and said the kitchens closed, so we'll just settle up now yeah. how rude! it was 9;10pm and we had not taken long at all.

It's like a time-hole, I manage to get stuck there, as if waiting for the train line to open ... and all of a sudden the weekend has disappeared!

Fabulous pub.... great for an afternoon of laid back drinking and tapas munching! If you are looking for more than tapas the other food on the menu is very good and reasonably priced with enough of a selection to cater for most people's tastes.

The Waiting Room is a fantastic option either for a quiet night or to take a big group of friends to. Since I moved to Morningside I've made the Waiting Room my local for very good reasons. It has a fantastic atmosphere, great service and a very good wine list! The staff remember your usual drink and are always friendly and polite. The service is quick and efficient. I'd recommend it to anyone, I don't believe you can find a better pub in Morningside...

this place has been my local for over five years. it has been the site for many birthdays, after work drinks, & sunday hangover recovery! the food is great with a wide option of dishes. the staff are friendly and i always feel welcomed there!

This has been my local since it has opened.I am a regular,and it's the kind of pub if your not,you can go in and feel comfortable sitting/standing,at the bar with a glass of ice cold wine,or beer,and wont feel out of place.
Have to say the staff are a wee bit slow though. 4/5

we used to live in Morningside and popped in here a few times, but have been back almost as often since moving! (surely a compliment...) to concur wuth others, service isnt the fastest but value for money makes this place a winner. does kronenbourg blanc, bittenburger plus a lovely russian beer i can never remember the name of. for staple pub gru (burgers, nachos etc) it's a-ok, thursday's mexican nights represent the best night to visit as there's often booze deals on as well. there's quite an atmosphere with the friday after-work crowd although i would be pleasantly surprised if people would travel from other bits of town to come here instead of the New Town etc. great place for a relaxing summer drink when all the windows are open! (providing there's no 38 waiting outside...) a nice place for an evening, interesting to see how the revamped Morningside Glory will affect the venue, maybe bringing more people here or encouraging others to not venture so far afield...? ps love those overhead luggage compartments

This is a great pub. I lived in morningside for seven years and this was my local. Food, drink and staff were great and i even went out with one of the gorgeous barmaids! Tremendous!
Well worth a visit although i believe that Jamie, Stevie and co have left. Boo!!!

The Waiting Room is quite a pub, nice surroundings, friendly doormen, friendly staff-especally a certain girl from south England! When your so far away from home its nice to find somewhere where everybody knows your name.

Apart from some tasty Mexican cuisine, I can't see any reason to recommend this place.
The staff (that includes the "Manager") pay no attention to who has been waiting at the bar longest, even when there's only 2 or 3 people waiting! They are offhand and aloof and completely unhelpful.
Be careful when ordering food as they will not present separate bills. This happened at our table. When one of our party left he paid for his food separately (despite much grumbling from the staff) and we were later *still* charged for his meal! The staff flatly refused to accept that he had settled his portion of the bill and demanded that we pay the full amount. After a week of wrangling with an exceptionally nice Duty Manager and finally the grossly unhelpful Manager himself, we finally managed to secure a refund.
We will not be going back and urge you to avoid the place, too.

Average prices, decent food, but totally lacking in atmosphere. Although the name stems from its former life as a railway station, it still does feel like a waiting room - somewhere to meet before you go somewhere else. The split level interior makes you feel like the action is going on somewhere out of view, yet if you do a tour of the place it feels the same in every other area. It's ok I suppose, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, more like somewhere to drink when you can't be bothered to go too far from your flat.
