I found it the bar a pleasant place to go. We didn't eat, so cannot comment. The cocktails were varied and well made if a little pricey. The quirky shoe display, comfy seats and knowledable staff made it a enjoyable place to visit.

This place is what it is, an overpriced ,unremarkable tarted up cocktail bar full of very annoying yas and psuedos .
I wouldnt recommend frankensteins either but at least it has a modicum of vibrance and you might actually be in danger of having a good time.

I couldnt agree more with the previous poster . On turning up here me and my 2 friends were told that there wasnt room inside even though there was clearly plenty of space and we werent drunk .
My 2nd attempt to gain entry was thwarted because i was "on my own"
So no marks to the little bearded fascist doorman twat.
When you finally do make it in its just dragonfly mark 2, overpriced and staffed by barstaff with delusions of grandeur.

I used to like this pub, but made the mistake of going there after a Scotland rugby match. I should have known better after being hassled for ridiculous minutiae by an officious twat of a bouncer, but then he refused to let me stand in there with a Scotland rugby shirt on. I have never ever been refused entry to a pub in Edinburgh for that. ridiculous. Lost business.

I've lived in Edinburgh for nearly a year and I live on the Old town side of the city. This bar/restaurant is a refreshing and funky establishment with friendly staff (one particular Aussie chick there!). Compared to other spots on this side of town it is stylish, quirky, comfortable and the food is neat and sweet. Great cocktails made with absolute precision, lighting and toilets are spot on.

Fantastic on all levels! Always take friends from out of town here when they visit. Glad they keep updating the menu as I think I've eaten everything! Remember to book as to not be disappointed.

Went with my wife after stumbling across when out with a few mates.
Comfy sofas, if you can get on them and fine cocktails, had by my missus, and wheat beer for me. Nice crowd, no young neds and friendly staff & DJ.
Like the ghetto blasters, old skool sylee above the bar, reminds me of my younger days, but my favourite this is a lit shelf dedicated to an addidas trainer....genius

I'm a little reluctant to give this a great review because its hard enough to get a seat in the evenings as it is - but this is a real gem - with awesome food, great beers and amazing cocktails. you can not fault anything with this cafe.

Just returned from a very brief trip to Edinburgh, during which we seemed to spend most of our time here! We stumbled across Villager after a mistakenly going to Frankenstein's for a drink, so it was quite a lovely surprise to find a place so full of friendly people. We had a brilliant night there but it was on the Sunday that it came into it's own; we went for lunch and ended up spending the whole day there. The food is amazing and plentiful, the cocktails are gorgeous and really reasonable, the staff were lovely, and the sofas are comfy. It's a pretty perfect, unique little star of a place and I will definitely be going back. Thank you for a lovely weekend!
