The smoking ban has done wonders to this place, the staff are as friendly and helpful as ever, the prices are competative, especially the excellent wine list. A new menu since my last visit and much better it is! It's a great place to escape to and take advantage of the drinks offers...yes it's true. and Mr Tork, Baltika has come down in price thanks to some new management!

Great atmosphere, great mixed crowd, great choice of food and drinks, friendly staff, interesting surroundings. Not the cheapest, but like everything else in life you get what you pay for. Best bar in Edinburgh for a relaxing drink in the afternoon and a lively atmosphere in the evening. Also perfect for avoiding the horrendous crowds who tend to frequent the other (nasty) bars and pubs in the area. HIGHLY recommended!

Would you rather pay through the nose for your beer or risk drinking with the local neds? I'd take my chances with the latter. Or rather, I'd walk five minutes with Lothian Road behind me to find a decent and cheaper place on (for example) Morrison St or Queensferry Rd. Surely Edinburgh's small enough not to have to put up with Traverse prices? The Trav is OK if you like that sort of thing, but remortgage your house before buying a round!

This is really not bad at all - excellent range of beers, nice long bar, plenty of seating - you dont even have to bother with a play !!
You can have a relaxing few in here and easily avoid the suits/chavs/general scum that can be found around lothian road .
AndThe barmaid was pretty hot too ...

I have been drinking in the Trav for years, and when they started charging £3.90 for a pint of Baltika, I knew my love affair with this place was coming to an end. It can still be a good place to avoid Neds and see some semi Intelligent types, but £3.90 for a pint of Baltika is just too much to bear! Staff are usually very good and if's it quiet they will do table service.

Massive basement theatre bar, good service, smart, reasonable prices, large portions of excellent bar food. Great as a pre-Citrus bar, for informal gatherings, safe for ladies out alone or in groups, no neds, with a babygoth friendly day area and recommended in the press. Thats why its on my website

Best staff in town. Great selection of quality beers and premium spirits. Excellent wine list. Food is not restaurant quality but for the money as good as you'll get. Just off the Lothian Road - but not a ned in sight! What more do you want.
