We were in there 2 weeks ago and everything that has been said with regard to friendly staff/punters There was someone giving us all milky bars they were great.

I was in Edinburgh for my hen do and had planned classy evening in Rick's bar, however, the clientele were rtaher boring and the bouncer extremely unwelcoming, we therefore left and ended up in "The World"! At first sight we thought we had made a mistake but feeling thirsty we gave it a shot... and how glad we did, the place came alive, the barman/owner kept the proceedings going with a healthy mixture of chat, karaoke and free shots and we ended up staying for 3 hours!!! It made our weekend! definitely go in, appearances can be deceiving!

The title says it all. I first stumbled across this gem in 1998 after being separated from my pals on Princes St whilst visiting the City on New Years Eve. I was immediately made to feel welcome and within an hour felt like a local. Since then I've moved to Edinburgh and the World remains my local. Great bar staff, a real charcter of a landlord who is a really nice guy and the odd karaoke night at the weekend. The World is a bit quiet during week nights although excellent for lunchtimes with a wide array of good traditional food at reasonable prices. I would recommend anyone to visit this great pub which has a unique ability to make even the most retiring visitor feel very welcome. Would certainly recommend Friday or Saturday nights.
