Typical Wetherspoons, not bad but not great either. Certainly good value for top brands but the place is soul-less and cheap drinks attract scum. So many better bars on the street

Like any Wetherspoons you know you will get decent food at decent prices and a cheap pint as well which is good especially on George St.
Good boozer for a meeting place and it is usually where me & my friends meet before moving on to the more livlier places on a Saturday night.

We try and find good pubs with a choice of real ales and food that doesn't cost the earth, this pub fits the bill. Great choice of beers and an atmosphere which makes you feel welcome. Can test your patience on busy nights when there is football on the telly and it takes a while to get served. If only every thing was as difficult as this..............

You know what to expect with a Wetherspoon's pub: decent beer and food at a reasonable price, but not a huge amount of charm. Avoid on busier evenings though.

Cheap booze, good food, nice staff, decent atmosphere. The only complaint I really have is that the booze is so cheap, you're pissed before you realise you have to take a stairwell to get to the toilets, haha!

This bar is always busy. Now the smoking ban has been lifted in Scotland this bar does a lot more meals. Therefore if you want a drink you have to wait ages while the staff cater for meals.I was there with a friend of mine yesterday at 1pm ( Tuesday the 2nd of May) and waited almost 20 minutes to get my drinks. The staff are friendly, but I'd wish they had a seprate counter for meals only. The drinks are reasonabley priced.nevertheless I still like this bar.In fact I think I will visit there today!

Lively, spacy, reasonable pricewise. What else... Great choice of ale, well trained staff and a good value for food. Well, the food could be a little nicer but given it's value seems to be OK

this pub look magnificent. The tables were clear and ashtrays clean when i visited at 8pm last Saturday. The seletion of real ale was fabulous and the very knowledgable duty manager told me they aim to have at least 6 guest ales on at one time PLUS IPA, 80/- and Abbot ale. A must visit for the real ale drinker!
The pub itself can become very busy given the prices and sheer size of the customer space, I didnt mind this, but its not one to visit if you like the peace and quiet of a saturday night!

Located in what was a magnificent banking hall, the ceiling is worth a look alone. The main bar is long, with lots of fonts and they used to have a wide selection of real ales, but sadly now there are only a few unless there is an event on.
The speed of the bar service is generally good but if there is a rush you can wait ages as their staff seem to work around a particular till and wont take orders outside their area. They also have the habit of "blasting" the beer through a nozzle rather than simply pouring it, which may help produce a frothy head but to me it knocks the life out of the beer and is unnecessary, but most pubs do this now.
About a year or so ago they gained two widescreen TV's and a drop down projector TV's to cover matches, which can make the main bar area crowded and unsuitable if you want a chat, but to be fair there are several other seating areas you can try to find space in to escape these if you don't want to watch what's on.
Personally I have never tried the food, but a friend has been there at lunchtime and said it was fine and good value.
One thing I like is the absence of loud music, which if you are there to enjoy a good glass of beer and have a chat with a few mates, can be a real pain.
All in all, one of the better value pubs with plenty of space and a friendly atmosphere.

For a cheap but hearty meal why not try eating one of the platter meals all by yourself! You will probably not need to eat for the rest of the week.

Nice and spacious in a beautiful old banking hall.
Used to have a good variety of real ales, but over the last year or so now limited to two or three. Very good prices though.
Intorduced two wide screen TV's for sport / football which only a few watch and makes a din - pity really as it takes away from the ggod pub atmoshphere.

I know folk who love this place - I also know folk who hate it..... I don't think you can really knock it - cheap booze (and food) and set in a great George St. building. Granted it can be very busy and getting a seat can be problematic but its well worth a visit. Refreshing not to have piped music and they have only just introduced tv screens. I think on Sunday they have extra special deals so always a good excuse to nip in on passing for a cheeky one or five....

Situated in what used to be a bank, the place is massive, with lots of floor space, really high ceilings and a long bar. You get the standard Weatherspoon deal - cheap alcohol, lots of real ales, curry nights, generally well trained and courteous staff and no TV or music. I find it a bit lacking in atmosphere, the main bar area sounds like you're in a cafeteria rather than a pub, and the no smoking rooms off to the side are like sitting in someone's living room, what with bookshelves and leather sofas and all. I always felt some background music would go some way to alleviating this. It needent be loud, just enough to drown out some of the crowd noise which echoes around the place. Also, if you go when it's busy, expect a very long wait at the bar.
