Milnes bar could be really nice if the company (Spirit group0 would spend a little (lot) money on giving it a sparkle.
I am sure that it would draw in a lot of new customers it that happened. Come on it is one of the oldest pubs in Edinburgh lets keep it rather than let it go downhiil and be sold off by the "Company" as a lost venture

Its had a refit of late but still manages to be a place where you regret going . Food was of a poor standard , service was abysmal - staff i encountered clearly didnt know how to a) poor a beer properly ,b) smile c) recognise who was next in line.
Its always busy for some reason and is no great shakes like a lot of rose st establishments .
Guildfords better for a pint and try the kenilworth for food .

I will not be back.
Watery lager.

How many prices can you be charged for the same round of drinks-answer 3!!!!When you complain there is nothing they can do!!!Beware if you get your drink in a long glass you may be charged extra for an extra centimetre of soft drink.

Ladies toilets-no loo paper and none available when asked.One cubicle out of order and the other three had one loo roll between them!

This place is the pits,I cannot believe its recommended in ANY tourist guide!!!!
As for eating there - no thanks.

This pub has gone downhill in the last while, a victim of it's own success as it takes so much money for the owning company (Spirit Group) that they have not spent any money keeping it looking nice!
There's a new manager now an Edinburgher born and bred with heaps of experience in the bar trade - he even managed 9 years in the weeg!
Hopefully this marks a new start for Milne's and it'll be positively reviewed again soon.

Now that the no-smoking rule is in operation this pub is on my good-pub list. The chicken tikka masalla is by far the best I have had outside an Indian restaurant. The place is clean and devoid of raucous music. The beer is excellent and of good choice as is the lager. They also have an excellent- tasting white beer on draught. There is a good selection of wine - my wife especially liked the (large)glass of medium white which she clutched tenaciously most of the night. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The toilets clean. Full marks all round. Will certainly go back.

Quite emarrasing that this is a bar that feature in guide books. I really would not want tourists to think this is an acceptable pub. the decor is drastically in need of over-hauling. ASnd now that there is no smoke the over-powering smell of BO from one of the bar staff is quite stomach churning. The ladies toilets were dreadfull - one was broken and the others had no loo paper.

Good pub.
Good choices of beer.
Nice food.
Its even better now the smoking ban has started.
Staff are a bit slow, but then again, I was in there Saturday evening and it was mobbed. I use this pub a lot as when my wife goes shopping up Princes street.I go to the Milnes.( She understands )

i was in here on sat and was disgusted by the lack of managment. the poor barstaff were new and they had no help from the supervisor

This is an OK pub. It's part of a chain but you wouldn't be able to tell it. It can get quite smoky on occasion and can get full of really loud drunk people at the weekends due to it's location.
