This Pub has it all. Great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Everyone was very hospitable and the management went above and beyond to make us comfortable. If I'm ever back to Edinburgh, I'm definitely going back.

this is a real gem in the haymarket area. the food just keeps getting better and better. have been in a few times in the past and went in recently, the food is home made and delicious, staff are courtesy and apparently on football and rugby days there are great home made pies of steak macaroni and chilli to take away if wished that is according to footie fans,not me. customer service is very good with staff checking on service. as a female customer feel vey comfortable going in on my own and will be back.

went out with my mate for a beer and ended up at the Mercat bar for some food . The burgers were great . Plus there was some free fringe shows on . it eneded up being a great night .

Hi , just visiting Scotland staying at the hilton . Was wanting somthing to eat and found this great place . The staff where great , the food was top class . I will be definitely back before i leave the country .

I work with special need's so i needed to stop off for a cuppa and use the toilet with a client . The Mercat looked very a frendly place to stop in . The Welcome we got was very pleasing as alot of the pubs in the area are not female friendly , (i was not expecting this ) . I ended up staying for lunch , the food was of top class standard . The Staff where great too. i have told all my other co workers , about my nice time .

Popped in for a sly G&T on the way home and was greeted with the worst drink I have had in a long time. Not wanting the usuall gordons the boy behind the bar took 5min to get me a list of their rather plain gin list, i received it in a dirty glass with one ice cube and no fruit. Price wasn't too bad but come on guys this is the simple things

15 blokes arrive in Edinburgh for a rugby stag weekend at 9am - hungry and thirsty. At 9.05 a friendly lady welcomes us all in 20 mins later we are all tucking into excellent B'fats and a pint of Guiness...What a start to the weekend! Graham and his team (inc Mum) looked after us really well the whole time. Great food Great ambience and great atmosphere. Been back since when in Edinburgh and it's still goin strong certainly a real jewel in a crown of bars in this fab city!

My wife and i where walking along the west end / haymarket looking for a nice resturant . We stopped and looked at what the Mercat had to offer , as they said it was all home made and fresh . When looking at the menu , we were greeted by a young male staff member . We where both very impressed . So we both decided to go in and give it a go. The food and the staff were top class , so I have made it my mission to tell more than 20 people about wounderful time i had there . well done ! to all the staff , keep up the good work .

was in edinburgh with the boys for a rugby tour, we found the mercat on our first morning , They had the rugby on .So we stayed for beers ... and breakfast . We made it our base for the days we where in edinburgh . Nice staff , the owner Graham top bloke totaly nutts ... would recomend the place to anyone ...

just been in scotland for a few weeks , stayed in the haymarket area and found this great bar . Me and my wife ate there on 5 diffrent times Food was second to none . Good choices , all cooked fresh(you could tell when eating it ).The best food in the area . well done .

i was in the area for 3 weeks because i was on buisness . I went to most of the pubs in the area . including the food places . I WAS OVER IMPRESSED by the quality of food . This is not a pub but a Gastro pub ,in my eyes . You get what you pay for . say no more . i recomend this place 150% if its not your cup of tea im sorry .. your loss .

I seem to be almost alone in not seeing the attraction of this place. In its favour, it's handy if you're waiting for a bus, but against, yes it's gained a coffee shop ambience as already reviewed below and I thought it to be very expensive for a pint. Why drink here when there are pubs like Thompson's, Ossian's and Mather's within a few minutes walk?

We were in Edinburgh for a few days last week and stopped in the Mercat. The people in there were the most friendly and welcoming we encountered on our whole trip!!! Graham especially, went way out of his way to make us feel welcome.
If you're planning a trip to Edinburgh the Mercat is a must. Say hi to Graham and Robbie.

The Mercat is a very friendly pub with the staff always smiling and joking.
First place i go if the footy is on as it is always a great atmosphere.
The pub is going from strength to strength and good luck to Graham and Chris they deserve to have as a great a pub is this with all the work put in.Top blokes.

great make over and the staff now seem to look forward to customers coming in however i was a bit disappointed about the lack of live music which had been hyped up in the bar over the last few months visited for the open mic nite and no one took up the offer

I went to the Mercat Bar with a girl friend and we liked the atmosphere there. We started with a nice salad and nachos followed by an enchilada. Both quality and price were more than reasonable. We finished with some profiteroles and a nice coffee. It was the second time I have been there and I will repeat. I also would recommend the special burger which is huge and very tasty.
Highly recommended place.

this pub offers a good choice of meals which are freshly prepared by chef and reasonable priced. perhaps lunch time could be a bit quicker however you could phone in an order beforehand, staff helpful and work to give good value to customersrecent nachos have changed but delighted to say have reverted back to original yummy yummy

The new look is great and it's about time a neighbourhood bar with a bit of class and style was introduced to the Haymarket/Dalry community.
Unfortunately the food isn't that great and I wasn't impressed at all by the pate or the nacho's.
I hope they renovate the downstairs as well. It didnt' look as if it were done when I went a few weeks ago.

Great for live football, especially if you're an Arsenal fan.
Always good beer - Deuchars IPA normally available and Pentland IPA is often on as well.
The decor has improved a lot since the recent refurbishment.

The pub has just opened again after a 4 week refurbishment. What a difference, it has really added a touch of class to Haymarket, with the new decore and excellent food, not to mention the bar staff who are very pleasant, helpful and look very smart and proffessional. This pub has something for everyone> So don't delay visit it today

The Mercat has been the official meeting place for Arsenal Scotland Supporters Club www.arsenalscotland.com for about 9 months now and the management, Graham and James have bent over backwards to accomodate us for club meetings and giving us priority to watch Arsenal on the large plasma screens downstairs. Most of the regular club members are greeted on a first name basis and we are always made to feel very welcome. We are allowed to wear Arsenal colours when most other city centre pubs (including supposed sports bars) do not. The Mercat hosted our first Christmas buffet last year and we had a great time and drank and eat at very reasonable prices. The haggis fritters were something else! Our coach trips to Arsenal's away games in the North of England start and finish at The Mercat as the location is ideal for everyone to meet up and near to Haymarket station, major bus routes and a large car park. I recommend The Mercat to everyone but especially Arsenal Supporters.
