Great range of real ales (think there was about six) and fantastic value. always busy and a real mix in customer - a traditional bar and one of edinburgh's most famous. always worth a visit and always a must if i'm in the west end. Gave a 5 for the steak pie!

I found this pub by accident on a walk round Edinburgh. I now make it my first 'port of call' on my Trips to Edinburgh. It is simply the "The Best" in my View. The Beers,Cider,Etc are very good, the Staff are very nice and Pleasent, and the Locals are very friendly and chatty. I would also advise you try the Steak Pies, they are the Best Ever.

The best pub between here and Morrison Street and well worth the diversion away from yuppie/suit pubs in William Street (excepting the Melville, which doesn't have Mather's atmosphere.) A genuine beer lover's pub with lots of standing room.

This has been one of my favourite West End bars for many years now. Excellent selection of beers and malts and the recent addition of the big screens makes it an ideal place to watch football, rugby etc. The close proximity to Princes St also makes it a real haven for those looking for a quick pint if getting dragged round the shops by the missus of a Saturday afternoon! Even though prices have gone up recently it's still by far the cheapest and best in the West End.

Like this pub.I visit at least twice a week. They do the best pint of 70/- in the town. They do lack a large screen for sports. The staff are a bit stone faced at times, but apart from that, a nice pint and a nice atmosphere.A step back in time with ambience.Go visit!

if you go to a place to see something that you can't see at home , then instead of going to theme bars etc , you shld be heading to places like this. I love this bar. It is a real old school boozer. There is one bar that has an excellent selection of drams & decent cask ale. Although it may not appear to be so, it is very female friendly & the staff do what they need to do. Get yourself to this bar , go for at least one beer & enjoy.

Great to know that places like this still exist - and so close to Princess St. No chain bar tat or style bar fountains in the bogs - this is a proper, no thrills boozer. Great, please support.
