Was in Edinburgh as a student last year, frequented this pub and always found it to be superb. I don't know what the complainers are talking about. A full pound of some of the best haggis around, with neeps and tatties, or fish and chips or whatever else, for three pounds with the student/backpacker discount, as I remember. The sticky toffee pudding is great, as well, and I always enjoyed a pint of the Caledonian 80 there. Only wish I'd discovered it sooner...

I used to work in this place many years ago and the same management still run it. Some of these reviews below are clearly sour grapes, if you treat the pub and its management with respect you will get respect and good service back. The management would not still be there 15 years on, in one of the most successful pubs in the centre of Edinburgh, if they dished out this so called attitude for no apparent reason. Pop in and make your own mind up.

I have frequently visited this pub and would include it on every visit to Edinburgh. The negative comments about the manager sound like sour grapes as I have always found him to be friendly and professional in his manner. I have noticed though, that he will not tollerate rude or disruptive customers to the detriment of others. I'll be back!

Unfortunately I cannot comment on the beer or food here because our visit didn't last long enough to find out! I have no idea whether the person we spoke to behind the bar was the 'unfriendly' manager which some reviews have mentioned but if it wasn't his attitude has obviously now rubbed off onto his staff, a general query about which bitters were served was met with a disinterested wave of his arm in the direction of the pumps and we obviously took too long to digest this information because 3 seconds later the guy tutted and sighed and stomped off to the other side of the bar to wash glasses! At this point we told him he was rude and promptly left.

Dropped by at the weekend , place was packed to the rafters but was served promptly and happily by the staff who were clearly very busy but still managed to be friendly. served decent quality food at reasonable price too.
The place was clean and the atmosphere warm - it tends to be full of tourists eating which makes it hard to get a seat but its still the best grassmarket pub .

By far the best pub of the many that I visited during my first trip to the U.K.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I actually felt the most welcome and relaxed after my visit there. I highly recommend a visit, and the Haggis is a must as well.

I think a number of reviewers here have summed it up. The management of this place ruins the experience of going for a pint and some food. I wouldn't go back here unless they changed the manager.

I concur with the reviews previously entered regarding the management of this bar. I to, have found the manager to go out of his way to show his negative side (that is to assume everyone has a positive one)... all in all a very bad advert for the heart of edinburgh

I'm baffled by some reviews on this site. The Last Drop pub in Edinburgh is one of the worst pubs I've ever visited. The manager turns an otherwise average watering hole into a very uneasy experience. His manner is just very unfriendly and I'm amazed that the brewery have allowed him to remain a manager as his attitude stinks. This is a place to avoid!

Seems as one either loves it or hates it. I belong to the first group. I'm a 27 year old German and every time I come to Edinburgh I eat at the Last Drop. The service as well as the food was always excellent. And when I spilt some water while trying to get it into the whisky, nobody became rude or so. Everything was just great there. Even if the food wasn't good, it would still be worth going there just because of the atmosphere. It's great there!

whats there to say, great little bar in the shadow of the castle, not un partial to the odd rugby group, stag and hen,who in my 3 or so years of being a regular there i must say that 99.9% of people leave with more than a cheery grin on there face.would love to visit more often, and hopefully keep my own seat at the side of the bar

As a ScotI was embarassed by the treatment some French and Scottish rugby fans received from the so called manager of the bar.
A small goup of French fans obviously being shown the sights of Edinburgh before the game were asked to leave the pub because some water had been spilt. Not unusual from my days as an ardent fan in some pubs. These people were not drunk or worse for wear as it was still early days. They had ordered water with their meals, the water in turn was spilt while they waited patiently for the meals to arrive. At this point the rather arrogant manger ordered them off the premises.
I left shortly afterwards with my collegue who also happened to be French, both feeling embarassed and disappointed towards the treatment our country men received. On leaving the premises my collegue met some French supporters who had the intention of entering The Last Drop and were persuaded not to enter. My french not being too good but I did understand MERD!!!

If you would like to be insulted and sworn at by the bar staff, then thrown out for accidentally spilling water, then I recommend "The Last Drop." For a pub that offers friendly deals to students, I found it slightly ironic that the 'ginger-haired' apparent manager takes such a dislike to 'kids.' Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food, we had barely ordered when we were asked to leave. This place tarnishes the friendly image of Scotland. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Well what can I say, Great little pub indeed!. When you get in the set-up makes you feel cosy with the exposed brickwork and bookshelves, not to mention you can play games from card's to connect4 available for free behind the bar. Prices are what you'd expect from a pub in the busiest street in the town at weekends. So get there early as it get's real busy!. I also heard on the grapevine it's Sean Connery's favoured pub when he's in town?

If you are looking for a pub that serves great food at a good price, with lots of atmosphere and very friendly staff, then this is the place. Also once food has stoped being served for the night it turns into a great place for a pint, weather it be a sly one with out the missus or a massive session, this is the place to go.
