Nice pub with great cask ales, but staff a bit unfriendly to foreigners. I ordered a pint of Dark Island and received 4 and when I asked about it, the barman was rude and loud. Maybe he just like to make americans feel stupid. The upside was that the beers were terrific, but I'll never go back there.

Been coming here since i started drinking and its always nice to see a bar which keeps its original decor.
The cask beers are still excellent and the place is always crammed .
The service went downhill a bit with the introduction of aussie backpackers behind the bar , but its still one of edinburghs finest bars .

The Guildford Arms is a great pub. Whenever I went in there was always a good mix of people. The building is really nice inside and the staff always seemed to be OK. It's central location is a benefit to the pub as well.

Probably the best real bar in Edinburgh and, most definitely, the best real ale bar in Central Edinburgh.

Always a fine selection of ales available and a bad pint is almost unheard of!

Avoid discussions on German romanticism with the local nut case. Although he responded fairly well to being told to leave us alone. Other than that a great pub.

I've been visiting the Guildford off-and-on for nearly 20 years. It hasn't changed much, thankfully. The beer's still great, the decor interesting without being showy, the atmosphere excellent. Somehow, it isn't quite top-notch, but it's been there or thereabouts since the early 80's at least. Back in the day, despite a heaving scrum at the bar, the unbelievably efficient bar staff would have you served in no time. Recently, however, I see they've gone down the employ-any-young-Antipodean route. Anyone who likes a bustling, but old-fashioned pub which knows exactly what it's doing should visit. Straight out of Waverley, across Princes Street, and just behind Burger King.
