Avoid avoid avoid! Its literally a dump. Drinks can be expensive and its not worth the fact its free entry. The clientel are usually sleazy old men and the type of people you dont want to be around. Troubles always around the corner, and the bar staff are rude, obnoxious (particularly a certain blonde- watch out for her) and look as if they are twelve years old. Walk on by, and go to liquid rooms. WORST CLUB IN EDINBURGH BAR NONE!

Not actually a bad place if you're the only person in there, but any club on the Cowgate with free entry is going to attract scum. This place is full of it. Horrible, horrible people. Avoid like the plague

If you want to get groped by disgusting sweaty 'men' by all means, have fun at espionage.
One night when my friends went for a birthday party, someone had taken a shit on one of the dancfloors, the bouncers did not look surprised and drunken neds danced around it. I vowed never to go back, but got taken there by my drunk flatmate recently. A drunk boy threw up on her.
Never again.
go to liquid room up the street and give this hole a miss.

This place aint so bad on a week day, but on the weekends you should give it a wide berth.
Schemies, neds, chavs the lot, middle aged men with red alcoholic faces and misisng teeth with gold watches leer and look as though they are thinking of stabbing you.
Not nice at all.
it is sooo expensive aswell, deffo not worth the expense

Now, i'm getting a bit old for Espionage, I'm into my real ale and all that good stuff, but even I recognise that Espionage is great. It is not a pub, it is a club that is split into five levels, with the top one the most 'pub like'.
If you are out on a Fri Sat night and are looking for a great place with your mates to have a laught and a dance, then you cant go wrong with this place. Ah, when I was a lad...

Other (weedier) reviewers may balk at the people that come in but I have never had any trouble (ok there was this one time) but the door staff to the bar staff are the rudest I have came across. the drink is terrible and its a complete firetrap with the amount of people they squeeze into this very enclosed building.Crap!

This place is full of middle aged, neddy, sleazy, Fred Perry shirt wearing arseholes.
If there is anything i hate more than neds/chavs on a night out, its ones that are old enough to be my dad and yet are the most imature, trouble making yobs you have ever met.
It's the kind of place where you are reduced to avoiding eye contact with every one and looking over you shoulder every two minutes to see if someone is gonna kick your head in or stab you with a broken blue wkd bottle.
Each floor (there are 5 of them) is worse than the last. I bsically walked into this place and walked straight back out again. It is terrible. Not as bad as Subway on Lothian Road (now that place is just plain evil) but still full of a rather dodgy crowd.
AVOID!

What a chav, gaji, schemie, shirt wearing hell hole. Dont be fooled by the name insinuating that this is the place for james bond or clasy double agents types. Quite frankly its the kind of place filled by people who look like they who headbutt you if you said so much as hello. And if your a lady then your bound to get a large pack of sweaty beasts dribbling over you.

If you like dancing in a sweaty bar getting looked at by scarey people and always having to look over you back to make sure your not involved with the next flow of trouble then you will have a fantasic time . Not my scene !!! Over rated and way to expensive for what it is .

Espionage is a great night out, with 5 levels and lots of trendy (mixed age range) people everywhere. I went on a Saturday night and I thought it was value for money, considering everywhere is a little more expensive on a saturday night than espionage and entry is free of charge all night... gives you extra for the bar!

I can only presume a previous reviewer has allocated one star per floor and then mistakenly summed them in rating Espionage 5*. It's an okay place to end up of an evening, when you can't think of anywhere more interesting to go, but fantastic it is not.

This is by far the coolest bar I've ever been to. It has 5 levels and four of them are underground. Each level has it's own bar, it's own music, and it's own crowd. This place packs in the college age crowd and is fun as hell if you're looking to party all night!

This is a very nice looking pub inside but is very expensive. It has lots of different bars on several floors and whenever I've been in it has been full of trendy student types
