id say my experience is a lil bit of both i have often gone there and been greeted with "uup thmesleves" bartenders who are rude and dont seem to give u the time of the day, however occasionally there have been freindly staff. the drinks are nice but terribly over priced.. its a place i go after being payed and then end up skint...i would keep this place only for special occasions! Great decor tho!

i've visited dragonfly a couple of times and thought the cocktails great, the tunes inspirational and the staff friendly.a zillion miles away from the poorly run pubs in the my local area.

Couldnt agree more with julie - staff are totally up themselves with delusions of grandeur, cliched music , horrible decor . the cocktails are nice but expensive - i can see this place going under eventually , your much better going to george street or frederick street for this kind of thing.

I never, particularly, liked this boozer as "The Fire Station", it was awfully bland.
I was in last night and our barmaid was awesome - really, really good (I've worked in the bar trade for almost 10years). This clearly isn't some sort of dating site so, although she was very pretty, that wan't the attraction. She was friendly, funny and extremely efficient. We had pints, shorts, shooters and cocktails and every one was spot-on.
I'd seriously reccomend this pub, especially to those who judge it as "The Fire Station".
also...
There's no "Service rating" in the section below, but I was overly impressed with the service here. It was excellent.

Yo know this place is totally average. Probably ok - if you really like cocktails, but as a beer drinker - nah. Much better pubs to go to, in the area.

Visited this on a very busy Saturday night and I have never been back. We were squashed in like sardines and it wasn't pleasant - and the bouncers kept letting them in! 20 min wait to get served and then spent an uncomforable hour getting jossled every 2 minutes while people went to leave or get in the place, as well as when they went to the bar. I like bars being busy but this was beyond a joke and turned everyone I was with in bears with sore heads- amazing how one bar can really ruin (what had been) a good night out.

Its such a chic place. Some of the big new bars in town have lost the true cocktail bar touch. this hasn't drinks are good, service better and you feel like they care and arn't just there to empty your wallet....

Just had a birthday party in the back room - Sat night, about 20 mates and a brilliant night! staff were extremely helpful, served us drinks at our table all night, room was cosy, music was good and best of all we didnt need to pay a thing for reserving a couple of tables for the night!
Would recommend it but not for suits or chavs..would be shame to spoil it.

What a glorious experience. The cocktail list is awesome and delicious but liable to result in your brain running out of your pants after 5 or 6.
They only employ girls to work the bar who have featured on the front cover of Loaded and the music and ambience is always spot on. Don't miss it.

I do miss that old place to park my fire engine but time moves on. The Dragon Fly is somthing very similar to what we already have all over Edinburgh. Pretenciously decorated in an attempt to be different and classy.
The music is quite cool however i do miss the old duke box, all in all you might aswell give it a try.

The Dragonfly is certainly an improvement on the Fire Station which was routinely awful. They used to serve manky food and the music was crap with the occasional terrible DJ. They could just about manage a beer for you. I'll never forget my boss telling me about one time he was having a drink there on the way home many years ago now, and nipped up to go to the gents only to have the toilet door barred by a large gentleman with the immortal words- "Ye cannae go in there, pal. There a lady who's 'doin business' just now" wtf!! Welcome the the Firestation, your local pub/brothel...
Anyway, now the decor has been vastly improved with stencil art and a modern refit and the wee nook through the back has some good comfy sofas. Haven't tried the food yet but surely they now have a chef who doesn't deep fry everything. A pint was under £2.50 when I was there last so it's a slightly more economical choice than the usual rip-off Edinburgh prices. Give it a try when you are sick of the Grassmarket and its "ground in muck=character" pub style (e.g. The Beehive)

Ripping out ye olde woodwork and slapping on some white wash hasn't improved what was an interesting little alternative to the hectic grassmarket scene.
Brightly lit and cheaply decorated, the Dragonfly has plummeted since its days as the old firestation.

Funky, classy new bar, reasonably priced. Great for a few drinks before heading out later.
