Title: Nice Atmospheric Pub

Was very pleasant when I was there in May. Pint was very nice, staff were friendly and welcoming and was quiet enough that you could sit and enjoy your pint, although without feeling that the place was deserted. I can't comment on the food, but I strongly suspect that at least one of the reviewers below was a member of staff from a competing establishment...

Dear Reader,

I am writing on behalf of the Staff at The Doric Tavern. Certain reviews below are not to be believed. Here, at the Doric, we pride ourselves on providing good Scottish food at an honest price with excellent customer service. We have reason to suspect that the negative reviews below are a fabrication of someone�s imagination. Firstly we have not served tuna since April. Secondly, under the terms of our Children�s License we are not allowed children under the age of 14 years old into our Bistro Restaurant area. We welcome children into the premises between 12-4pm in our downstairs bar and 12-8pm in our Wine Bar upstairs, for the purposes of a meal. Additionally, we are also in the process of having baby changing facilities installed. These factors should indicate that we are child friendly and our staff take satisfaction in pleasing the children who visit with their parents.

We were recently reviewed by a critic for Visit Scotland (the Scottish Tourist Board) so if you wish to read a recent, and more importantly - impartial - critique of our food and service, please visit their website and read about us there. Two of three chefs have been replaced early this year. Food is consistently good now.

Customer Cards are issued with every bill so that Customers can give feedback to the Management. Complaints - if any - are dealt with immediately.

I wasn't impressed at all. The waitress that served me, a blonde girl, was very rude and impatient with my 7-year-old daughter. This might be acceptable in a busy restaurant but there was only our party of 5 and another couple in the resaurant. When the food did finally arrive after 1 hour 30 minutes, my tuna might as well have been served raw and when I asked if I could have it cooked for slightly longer the waitress looked disgusted that I'd question the chefs cooking and then the chef then refused to take it back into the kitchen.

My husband took me for lunch here one day last year. It was so bad, I try very hard now to block the whole horrible experience out. Just avoid!! If you want decent, quality, good value Scottish food, go to Howie's. It's consistently good.

This pub used to be not bad. It still is an ok place to go upstairs if you want a quiet lunch... although the bar downstairs has had all of the character booted out of it. It has twisted the bar itself round to the back of the pub and the decor is attemting to attract the youth hostelling crowds around it in a very homogenistic fashion. It holds no sense of a "Doric" experience and should really of changed its name ... when it decided to change its layout and decor. It does attract a rahter unsavoury aspect of Edinburgh' senior council administration and can be home to some rather poorly fashioned Italian tourists ... whose belief is as much DAKS and BURBERRY as you can pile on the better. Little do they know that within the city football underground they are harbouring a football casual statement and are likely to have more than they bargained for.

Fab yummy food and friendly staff. Great selection of dishes and, oooh the Desserts!

I enjoyed my visit to The Doric, loved the atmosphere. A great place to go in a crowd or a couple. Staff took care with my party and even had a wee chat whilst busy. Not many restaurants in town do that!
